Huruma, The First Lion King

This is for the The King and his princesses - Contest. I chose to draw the First King,
This is my theory on what the First King of the Pride Lands might had look like.
I chose the name Huruma it means “compassion” and this is my theory how he became king.


Huruma was a kind and understanding lion, and he like to help animals in need. When Huruma was a young adult his pride came to a land without a name, it would have been a beautiful site if wasn’t for the hyenas roaming around and upsetting the balance of the land. Huruma’s heart went out to all the animals inhabiting the land, his pride leader thought it would be best that they hurry and pass these lands.

As the pride made it to the center of the lands a old lion with light blueish gray fur and white mane blocked their path, he claimed to be a Seer and years ago had a vision that a lion would become king of these lands and for years he tested each lions that came through. Once the pride realized that the old lion wasn’t a threat some of the males were intrigued to what the Seer was saying, they asked how do they pass the test. The Seer told them that the true king’s roar would make the giant rock in the middle land break. All the lions tried but the giant rock didn’t break, the Seer noticed that Huruma didn’t tried and asked him why.

Huruma believes that a king is someone that controls other to do his bidding, who only care for himself and not for welfare of others and he wasn’t like that. The Seer laughed at the young lion and told him there more to a king then that, a true king would follow his beliefs. Huruma took the wise lion’s words to heart and stepped up to test himself, but before Huruma roared he told everyone that he roaring for his pride and the animals of the land. Huruma took a deep breath and roared proudly, the land started shaking and so did the giant rock then it began to split, some of the rock landed on a raised rock pointed to the east. Huruma stop and so did the earthquake, his pride stared at him with wide eyes and jaws dropped, the Seer bowed down to Huruma and called him ‘Your majesty.’ then the pride followed suit but Huruma told them to rise. The Seer pointed at the new rock formation and told Huruma that the great spirits have given him a throne.

Huruma climbed up on the formation that pointed east where the sunrises and looked upon the land without a name.

“If I am chosen to be king then I want to make one thing clear, these lands don’t belong to me but to every living creatures that understand the balance of life, the never ending circle that connects us all. And from this day forward these lands shall be known as the Pride Lands.”
